An Unforgettable Show 一场令人难忘的表演
Beijing 2008 - Amazing fireworks
The 2008 Beijing Olympics began officially on Friday 8th August 2008 at 8pm in front of a crowd of 90,000 eager spectators in the Bird's Nest stadium.
Things got off to a bang with an initial firework display which lit up Beijing's skyline,followed by a total of 2,008 energetic drummers beating a countdown.
Then the crowd was treated to an amazing sequence of intricately-choreographed,beautifully-lit vignettes which took them through 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture.
After these performances,it was time for the athletes themselves to take centre stage.In keeping with tradition,Olympic founders Greece led the 204 competing nations into the stadium.
China's 639 athletes entered last behind towering flag bearer Yao Ming,to a thunderous reception from the crowd.
Finally,the cauldron was lit by a jet of fire from Chinese Olympic hero Li Ning,who had been hoisted up to the roof of the stadium on wires.
China,of course,was not alone in watching the opening ceremony.British newspaper The Guardian said the show "outdid all of its predecessors in numbers,colour,noise and expense."
The Financial Times was equally impressed."No country ever has – or surely will – match the Chinese in effort,human power,synchronicity,ingenuity and,it has to be said,money they were willing to put into what was once a little show."
No pressure on the next Olympic host city then!With just four years to go,the London Olympic organisers have promised to deliver an equally inspirational ceremony.Let's hope they can pull it off.

The 2008 Olympic Game has been the most cheerful and anticipated event throughout Beijing ever since Beijing was rewarded the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, yet the focus should be shifted from making a promise to fulfilling the promise made.
In my point of view, to bridge the gap between the promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go. To begin with, infrastructure construction should be the primary concern. Such infrastructures as communications and transportation system and facilities ought to draw our constant attention. First, traffic jam has been an age?old headache in Beijing. The scene of long queues of vehicles worming their way inch by inch will surely cause great incontinence, and blemish the image of the city meanwhile. Next, to add enchantment to convenience, overall city?planning is indispensable. Time permitting, a redesign of city layout and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for fostering the characteristic, blending, oriental elegance with international grandeur, will tower aloft among surrounding architectures. To achieve such effect, Beijing shall solicit opinions from first?rate architects and make an overall plan. Thirdly, quality of the population should be improved. To make an international metropolis, both “hardware” and “software” are important.
However, Rome was not built in a day. To carry out the promise of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”, deeds speak louder than words.

The opening ceremony of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
As is vividly shown in the website and people all over the world, it is a successful opening ceremony that of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Magnificent scenes and bright light let the foreigners to acclaim it as a marvel, and realized that all is not gold that glitters.
First of all, I believe that this is the embodying of Chinese’s intelligence. Although Chinese martial arts is no longer new for the foreigners, it has also attracted its own fans all over the world, so not unexpected at all, the Congfu performance caught every audience’s eye. The opening ceremony used artistic techniques such as multimedia sound, light, electricity and so on, has unfolded modern China.
Secondly, this is connected with China’s economy development. Nowadays, China is getting strong gradually, so it can bear the huge expenses in this ceremony. Moreover, China has won 51 gold medals in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, this is the embodying of Chinese comprehensive national strength as well.
Above all, histories is developing, and the culture is also developing. I firmly believe that China will become stronger and stronger.
